Camping de la Plage or Au Paradis des Campeurs: which campsite to choose on the French Riviera?
Two 4-star campsites by the same Mediterranean, two very different holidays. Camping de la Plage, in Grimaud, is a large 18-hectare beachfront site in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez: 463 pitches, a supermarket, beach restaurants, sports grounds, open in season. Au Paradis des Campeurs, in Les Issambres, is a human-scale 4-star campsite on the French Riviera: calm, leafy, open all year, with lodges featuring a private spa or pool, dog-friendly, a 2-minute walk from La Gaillarde beach. The right choice depends on the kind of holiday you’re after.

Au Paradis des Campeurs

- Dog-friendly beach 100 m away + forest
Camping de la Plage
A large 4-star, 18-hectare beachfront campsite next to Port-Grimaud, in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. 463 pitches (by the sea or under the pines), a supermarket, beach restaurants, sports grounds and an animal park: the address for families who want the sea on their doorstep and the services of a big seaside resort.
- Beachfront (underpass to the beach)
- Supermarket & beach restaurants
- Tennis, multi-sports, animal park
- Open late March to mid-October
Where are the two campsites located?
Both campsites line the same Mediterranean, but on two different stretches of the Var coast: Au Paradis des Campeurs in Les Issambres, on the French Riviera towards Fréjus / Saint-Raphaël; Camping de la Plage in Grimaud, in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, between Sainte-Maxime and Port-Grimaud. About 25 minutes’ drive separates the two.
How to choose between them?
Calm or a large, lively campsite?
For a large beachfront campsite with a supermarket, restaurants, sports grounds and plenty of neighbours, choose Camping de la Plage. To sleep in peace, surrounded by nature, with clear and calm water free of motorised water sports off the beach, choose Au Paradis des Campeurs.
Travelling with a dog?
Both campsites accept dogs. Au Paradis des Campeurs lives up to its nickname, the “dogs’ paradise”: forest right next door and a dog-friendly beach 100 m away. At Camping de la Plage, dogs are allowed on a lead, for a surcharge.
Travelling off-season?
Au Paradis des Campeurs is open all year; Camping de la Plage closes from mid-October to late March. For a winter stay or outside the school holidays, choose Au Paradis des Campeurs.
Camping in a tent, van or motorhome?
Both offer genuine pitches. Au Paradis des Campeurs has around a hundred on 7 hectares, with an intimate feel; Camping de la Plage lines up 463 on 18 hectares, by the sea or under the pines — larger, but more crowded.
